Amazon.com Review From its translucent-blue bubble to its sleek curves, this high-tech sewing machine is "sew" totally cool! It attracts hordes of hip devotees who have never even taken a home-ec sewing class. That's because it's computerized, combining with a Nintendo Game Boy to convert what was once grandma's chore into a fun activity for any family member. Embroidering jeans, customizing shirts with fancy stitching, monogramming napkins, creating zingy buttonholes--all this and much, much more is a snap with the Izek. It automatically sews 84 stitch patterns (and up to three combinations), five buttonhole styles, letters (block, script, or outline format), numbers, and symbols and allows hobbyists and artists to create--and save in the Game Boy memory--their own stitch patterns, letters, and designs. When the Game Boy is turned on, music plays and the screen permits a choice of English, French, or Spanish. Next comes a choice of patterns, buttonholes, letters, favorites, custom, and colors. Then single or combination patterns. The 84 stitch patterns show up, each adjustable for length and width. A selected pattern can be added to favorites or sent to the sewing machine. A choice of viewing the machine's setup guide follows. Turning down that option prepares the machine to sew the stitch pattern as it's been selected and customized. Of course, the machine functions without the Game Boy wizardry, and it's loaded with convenient features: automatic needle threader, one-step buttonhole sewing, electronic speed control, front drop-in bobbin for easy viewing and changing, needle up/needle down function, free-arm sewing, and many others. A complete accessory package (various presser feet, friction-free spool holders, transparent bobbins, and needles for sewing different fabrics) is included. Invaluable is Singer's illustrated, step-by-step instruction booklet. The machine is under warranty for 25 years against mechanical defects, 2 years against electrical defects, and 90 days for adjustments. --Fred Brack

LOVE IT!!! November 24, 2002 kimbersdawnly (Ketchikan, AK United States) 13 out of 14 found this review helpful
This machine has excellent stitch quality, versatility, and is extremely easy to use. With the gameboy you can select, combine and even create your own stitches without hassle. It comes with a huge variety of stitches to choose from already programmed, most you can specify size for or use the mirror image. If you are looking for a machine for clothing, crafts, and home dec, the IZEK is your machine!!! I've made everything for my new baby on it and it's still fun to use (I love the ducky stitch). The needle threader is wonderful, it feeds flawlessly, the bobbin winder is great and fast, but definitely works best with good thread. If you want to get the most out of the machine, toss out the old coats & clark [stuff.]The speed control makes sewing tricky spots easier and enables you to sew without the foot pedal, which provides more consistant stitches and frees you to consentrate on controling the fabric. I'll never go back to a foot pedal again. I do recommend purchasing an AC adapter for the gameboy if you sew alot, because it's on during all but straight stitching and is even useful then if you are absent minded like me. The gameboy alerts you if you forget anything or if there is a problem with the machine and automatically stops sewing. Great if you're nervous, distacted (every mom!), drink too much coffee, or are just human like the rest of us. I love my IZEK!!!
Izek is great February 27, 2003 Melissa (Torrance, CA United States) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I love this machine. It's just like any other machine, except it has the capabilities of expansion. If singer made more "games" for the gameboy, it may be more attractve. The only bad thing about this machine is that when you use regular sized thread spools, you have to put them on the attachment, because they don't fit in the spool pin. I found intersting the two different sewing speeds. So far, I've used this machine for making clothes, costumes, alterations, and curtains. I would not trade this machine for any other. It's really easy to use.:0)
best thing ever June 9, 2007 Monique Ramsey (Texas, EP USA) I didn't really know how to sew when I first got this machine 5 years ago, but it is so idiot proof that I have learned to make clothes, dolls, and bags and have never need to take it in for service or anything.

Sewing with Ease December 7, 2001 42 out of 43 found this review helpful
I just received the Singer Izek sewing machine, and must tell everyone, that it is well worth the investment. At first, the Nintenedo Gameboy component may seem cumbersome to use, but if you have had any computer use in the past, this should be no problem to learn in two minutes. For those without a computer knowledge, it may take a little longer to learn, but let me tell you, it is well worth it. To get such a high quality electronic sewing machine from Singer at a great price, I am very excited to start getting to work on it. So far, I have made over ten different gifts in the past 3 days. It is not only easy to use, but also fun to work with. From it's high-tech space-age design, to the gameboy component, this machine may look different than the rest, but does much more than any other sewing machine I have seen in its price range. Their are so many stitches built into the Gameboy program, including embroidery stitches and letters for monogramming, and they are so easy to access. In the matter of 10 minutes I was able to make my dog a bandanna with his name embroidered on the top. This project was actually fun and easy to do. I would highly recommend this machine to the sewer that is looking to upgrade their machine, but not ready to spend a lot for one. Singer's 150th year anniversary machine definitely is worth the price. You will get more than you hoped for.
